Obituary of Richard Lampkin

Mr. Richard G. ?Dick? Lampkin, 80, of Youngs Corners Road, Town of Florida passed away Saturday afternoon at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam with his family by his side. Born in Amsterdam on October 12, 1925 he was the son of the late Abram and Esther Cooper Lampkin. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. Dick owned and operated the family farm on Morris Road in the Town of Florida for many years. He was also employed as a school bus driver for Brown Transportation. Mr. Lampkin was a life member of the Town of Florida Volunteer Fire Department. During his tenure with the department he served not only as a board member, but also as it President for over 20 years. He was also a member of the South Chuctanunda Fish & Game Club, the First Reformed Church and served on the Fonda Fair Board. Survivors include his wife, the former Erma Manchester, whom he married on April 28, 1955; two daughters, Arlene Lampkin of Amsterdam and Dian Jump- Hendricks and her husband Eric of Amsterdam; two sons, Howard and Harold Lampkin, both of the Town of Florida; one brother Charles Lampkin and his wife Thelma of Amsterdam; 10 grandchildren, Katrina, Crystal, Andrew, Deanna, Harold Jr., John, Adam, James, Sarah, and Matthew. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by his sister, Marland Knack. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 15, 2006 at 11:00a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with the Rev. John Magee presiding. Interment will take place in Fairview cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 5 until 8 Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Florida Volunteer Fire Department, 6282 State Hwy. 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to the First Reformed Church, Arch Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
