Obituary of Norma Mildred Foss Thompson

Norma Foss Thompson, 85, formerly of Locust Avenue, Amsterdam, NY died July 1, 2006 at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam. Born October 9, 1920, the daughter of Florence Kalk and Carl Foss. A lifelong resident of Amsterdam, NY, she was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class of 1938 and Amsterdam School of Commerce. Norma was employed by Mohawk Carpet Mills, Electrometrics and Amsterdam Printing Co. where she retired as an executive secretary. Norma enjoyed her home, cooking and crocheting. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her gentle and loving ways. Norma was the devoted wife for 56 years to Joshua Thompson who survives as well as her sister, Marlene F. Shelmandine and husband Arthur of Loudonville, NY; two sister-in-laws, Helen Thompson and Elvina Thompson both of Amsterdam, NY, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Special niece, Karol Spenard and husband Thomas and sons Justin and Tyler of Brunswick, NY; nephews Arthur R. Shelmandine and wife Laurel and daughters; Marikje and Annalise of Jericho, VT and Paul Shelmandine and wife Monica and son Shawn of Niskayuna, NY whom she referred to as ?her kids?. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Staff Sargeant Carl Jr. who was died 1943 in WWII, and sister, Winifred Wendy Foss who died 2004. Norma?s family would like to extend a special thanks to her cousins Ileen, Wilfred and Bill Marks for their assistance and considerations to our beloved wife, sister and aunt. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:30 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY where the Office of the Burial of the Dead will be read by the Rev. Christopher Smith, Rector of St. Ann?s Episcopal Church. Burial will take place in Green Hill Cemetery in Amsterdam. Calling hours will be held one hour prior from 12:30 to 1:30 at the funeral home on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Norma?s memory may be made to Green Hill Cemetery Association care of the funeral home.
