Obituary of Paul G. Sawitzki

Paul G. Sawitzki, 65, of Julia Street, passed away peacefully Saturday evening at St. Mary?s Hospital after a courageous battle with Crohn?s disease. Born in Amsterdam where he lived his entire life, on May 3, 1941. He was the only child of Gregor and Hazel Cooper Sawitzki, and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Paul began a long career with the General Electric Company in Schenectady where he worked as a millwright until he retired in 1997. He was an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed spending time in his garden. He was a communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, and had served as an usher for some time. He was also a member of its Holy Name Society and the G.E. Quarter Century Club. On Nov. 8, 1964 he was united in marriage to Carol E. Fraim. His beloved wife passed away suddenly on March 15 of this year. His loving family includes his children, John and his wife Kelly Sawitzki, and Gregor and his wife Maria Sawitzki all of Amsterdam; his adored grandchildren, John Paul, Jr., Evan, Emery, Matthew and Ella Sawitzki; his in-laws, Rita and Art Manginelli, Mary and Norm Marcotte and Dolores Fraim; dear lifelong friend, Phil Willett as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services are Wednesday at 10:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at 11:00 am at St. Mary?s Church. Interment is in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to St. Mary?s Church Development Fund, or the OLEY Foundation for Crohn?s Disease both in care of the funeral home.
