Obituary of Beverly Wemple Marcais

Mrs. Beverly H. Wemple Marcais, 88, of Mayfield, died Thursday June 8, 2006 at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility after a long illness. She was born in Gloversville on February 13, 1918, daughter of the late Alexander and Marguerite Reid. She was educated in Gloversville schools and Community College. From 1953 until 1971, she operated a coffee shop and gas station known as Wemple?s Esso in Mayfield with her husband, John O. Wemple. She was elected as Mayor of Mayfield in 1973 and also helped to organize the Bannertown Senior Citizens. Beverly was an avid Master Rating Bridge player, a great cook, loved bowling, gardening, embroidery and her family. She also loved to play golf, and had scored a hole in one in 1971. Beverly was a member of the Mayfield Central Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. She formed the Mayfield Walking Club in 1974, and was also Cub Scout Chairman of Pack 53 that year. She was a former member of the Mayfield Fire Department Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Paul Marcais, whom she married December 23, 1990; two sons, Gerald Wemple and his wife Susan, and Garth Wemple and his wife Judy of Mayfield; her stepchildren, Bruce Marcais and his wife Ellen of Huntington, NY; David Marcais and his wife Kathy, Larry Marcais and his wife Kim of Johnstown, and Audrey Stetson and her husband Robert of San Marco, Ca; one sister, Yvonne Costantino of Gloversville; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, John O. Jack Wemple in 1989, a brother, Carlton Dick in 2002, and a sister Lyla Dick in 2004. A memorial service will take place 7:00 pm Tuesday at the Mayfield Central Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bonnie Orth officiating.
