Obituary of Thomas J. Lynch

Thomas J. Lynch, Jr., formerly of Ellsworth Street, passed away peacefully late Sunday evening at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility. Born in Cohoes, New York on July 24, 1920, the son of Thomas J. Lynch, Sr. and Minnie Price Lynch. He graduated from the former Keveny Academy and later from Union College where he received a degree in accounting. He then began his career in business accounting and worked for Griffis Air Force Base, Mohasco and the Naval Supply Depot in Scotia before he retired in 1990. In his youth, Tom was an avid sportsman, playing baseball and basketball with several leagues. During World War II, he served with the US Navy on the ship U.S.S. Destroyer. He fought on Iwo Jima and Okinawa during several campaigns. Tom enjoyed fifty-five years with his beloved wife, the former Joyce Dreaney. She predeceased him on Feb. 14, 2000. He was a communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church. He is survived by dear friends, Jane and Michael Hughes and family of Amsterdam. Services are Wednesday, May 10 at 10:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church. Interment is in Memory?s Garden, Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service at 9:30 am at the funeral home. It was Tom?s request that contributions be made in his memory to St. Mary?s Church, in care of the funeral home.
