Obituary of Raymond F. Hayner

Mr. Raymond F. Hayner, 96, formerly of Phillips Street, Amsterdam, New York, passed away Monday morning at Mt. Loretto Nursing Home. Born in Schenectady, New York on July 5, 1909 he was the son of the late Elmer and Ida Mae Hayner. He attended Schenectady City Schools and was a graduate of Knot Terrace High School. Mr. Hayner was employed by Mortan?s in Amsterdam for over 50 years as the manager until retiring in 1985 when he moved to Nashua, New Hampshire where he lived for 15 years until moving back to the Amsterdam area. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Hayner enjoyed traveling, reading, collecting antiques, gardening and the ocean. On May 2, 1943 he was united in marriage to the former Helyn C. Ward. That union lasted 34 years until her passing on April 8, 1977. Mr. Hayner was also predeceased by his brother, Donald C. Hayner and a sister, Winifred M. Turner. His loving family includes a daughter, Corliss ?Holly? Zyzes and her husband Kenneth of Tribes Hill, New York; two sons, Paul Hayner of Seattle, Washington and Christopher Hayner and his wife Naomi of Southbury, Connecticut; five grandchildren, Amy H. Lewis and her husband Todd, Tyson C. Hayner and his wife Harmony, Claire Flynn- Hayner, Keelan E. Zyzes and Kenneth R. Zyzes; a great granddaughter, Grayson Lewis; several nieces, nephews also survive. Funeral services and calling hours will be private and held at the convenience of the family at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Interment will take place in St. Mary?s Cemetery in Fort Johnson. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in Mr. Hayner?s memory to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY, 12211; St. Mary?s Church Development Fund, 156 East Main Street, P.O. Box 699, Amsterdam, NY, 12010 or to the Mt. Loretto Nursing Home, 302 Swart Hill Road, Amsterdam, NY.
