Obituary of Ruth E. Veeder

Mrs. Ruth E. Veeder, 97 years old of Hialeah Drive, Colonie, died Tuesday at Daughters of Sarah Senior Community in Albany, where she had been a patient for the past year. She was born April 7, 1909 in Three Rivers, Massachusetts, spending her childhood in the Boston area. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1931 from Tufts University and moved to Charleston Four Corners where she taught at Sand Hill School for 3 years. Mrs. Veeder then lived in Scotia for a time before moving to Colonie where she resided for the past 60 years. She worked with her husband Harry in the family business, Harry E. Veeder & Sons in Colonie. Mrs. Veeder was a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church in Colonie for the past 20 years, member and national chairman of genealogical records for the Peter Gansevoort Chapter of the NYSDAR, a volunteer at the NYS Library/Archives for genealogical research, active in preservation of the VanSchoick House in Cohoes, a member of the Schenectady Rose Society traveling throughout New York State judging Rose competitions, Secretary of the MacDuffee clan of America and a member of the Dutch Settlers Society of Albany. She married Harry Eaton Veeder September 23, 1933 who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Charles M. Veeder and his wife Jane of Bangor, Maine and David H. Veeder and his wife Vandy of Amsterdam, New York; five grandchildren, Katrina, Kirstin, Abigail, Marvin and James and one great-granddaughter, Rachel. Mrs. Veeder was predeceased by a son, Edward Fredericks. Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Friday at Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Ray Stees officiating. Burial is in Charleston Christian Church Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 12-2:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one?s choice.
