Obituary of Bettye M. Fosmire

Mrs. Bettye M. Fosmire, 87, of Upper Prospect Street, Fonda passed away Friday afternoon at Albany Medical Center with her family by her side. Born in Gloversville, New York on June 9, 1918 she was the daughter of the late Frank and Pearl Gifford LaRowe. She was a lifelong area resident and was a 1935 graduate of Gloversville High School. Mrs. Fosmire was employed for Nelson A. Taylor Company as a bookkeeper for many years until her retirement. She was an active member of the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church, and the Presbyterian Women. Mrs. Fosmire also served as a Treasurer for the Albany Presbyterian Women. She was active for a time in the Y.W.C.A. in Gloversville, serving as a board member and as the Treasurer. Mrs. Fosmire also served as a Deacon in the First Presbyterian Church, in Gloversville for a time. She was also a member of the Glen-Mohawk Seniors, Club 60 and the Ostomy Club. She will be remembered as a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Bettye loved her family dearly, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by one sister, Genevieve Roberts, and one son-in-law, Donald Whitman. Her loving family includes her husband Leicester Fosmire, whom she married on July 25, 1941; three daughters, Eleanor and her husband the Rev. Lowell Peterson of Fremont Ohio, Julie Robbins and her husband Gary of Gloversville, New York and Susan Whitman of Johnstown; one son, Francis ?Fuzzy? Fosmire and his wife Yvonne of Gloversville, New York; one sister, Eleanor Cast, of Gloversville, New York; 11 grandchildren, Daniel Fosmire, Melissa Young and her husband Frank, Francis T. Fosmire Jr. and his wife Sara, Kathleen Peterson, Dr. Genevieve Maloney and her husband Dr. Daniel, Dr. Elizabeth Peterson, John Peterson, Christopher Robbins, Nicholas Robbins, Sherry Beth Robbins, and Andrea Finocchiaro and her husband Peter; eight great grandchildren Ashley, Mason, Hunter, Annette, Jason, Danielle, Kristina, and Jordan; one great-great-grandson, Jason and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration of Life will take place on Monday at 11am at the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church, Mohawk Drive, Tribes Hill, New York with the Rev. Barbara Floryshak presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bettye?s name may be made to the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church.
