Obituary of Anthony Maragno

Mr. Anthony Maragno Sr; age 84, died Saturday April 8, 2006 at James A. Haley Veteran´s Administration Hospital, Tampa, Florida. A resident of Gloversville, NY for most of his life, he and his wife have lived in Weeki Wachee, Florida for over twenty years. Tony was born on October 11, 1921 in Gloversville, NY, the son of the late Augustino and Maria Dorey Maragno. He served in the US Navy during World War II from 1938 to 1944. A self-employed electrical contractor, Tony owned and operated Maragno?s Electric on North Main Street in Gloversville for many years, as well as Maragno?s Golf Shop, where he made, repaired and sold golf clubs. He was a long time member of Pine Brook Golf Club, and was one of Fulton County?s greatest amateur golfers. He won numerous local and regional golf tournaments including the Fulton County Amateur Championship nine times. He also placed third in the New York State Amateur Tournament and participated in the 1980 PGA Senior Open. His golf career was highlighted by capturing the New York State Senior Amateur Tournament in 1978. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Puleo Maragno of Weeki Wachee, Florida; two sons, Anthony J. Maragno Jr. Janice and Robert D. Maragno Katherine both of Gloversville; four stepchildren, James Querbes Kim of Greenfield, Calvin Dennie Joni and Michael Dennie Susan both of Gloversville, and Paulette Lizotte Adrian of Cicero, NY; four grandchildren, Christopher Maragno, Anthony Maragno, Laurie Walsh and David Maragno; six step-grandchildren, Sam Querbes, Shannon Dennie, Derek Lizotte, Darian Lizotte, Jason Dennie and Meredith Dennie; and a great-grandson, Andrew Walsh. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Erma Pernecky Maragno in 1979, and by his brother Joseph Maragno and step-brother Floyd Colly. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Monday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, NY; where a prayer service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd; Albany, NY 12205, or to the charity of your choice.
