Obituary of Richard A. Long

Mr. Richard A. Long, age 73, of Gloversville, died Saturday morning, April 1, 2006 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville. He was born April 9, 1932 in Johnstown, the son of the late Charles and Margaret Briggs Long. A graduate of Gloversville High School, Dick later served in the Army for eight years during the Korean War. He then worked at the Johnstown Tanning Company, and retired as a machinist at General Electric Company in Schenectady after more than twenty years of employment. Mr. Long was a member of the former First Baptist Church in Gloversville, and a former member of the Gloversville Moose Lodge. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and also playing pitch and pinochle. Dick was married on November 26, 1964 to Ella Kibler Long who survives. He is also survived by four children, Merry Ellen Brumaghim Dean of Gloversville, Melody Graham Scott of Hazlet, NJ, Michael Crump Karen Jo of Calabasas, CA, and Richard Long Jr. Jennifer of Guilderland; a brother, Charles Long of Johnstown; a sister, Margaret Bovee of Mayfield; grandchildren, Jordan Smith, Rebecca Smith, Gabriella Smith and Weston Crump; nieces, Sherry Richards, Jeanette Bovee and Carol Morris; nephews, Steve Bovee, Mark Brower, Matt Long, Phil Kibler, William Kibler, Scott Kibler and Michael Long; brothers-in-law, Stan Brower and Gordon Kibler; sisters-in-law, Darlene Brower, Nancy Kibler, Pat Long, Betty Long and Hila Long. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Monday at Kobuskie - Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday with Pastor Richard C. Klueg officiating. Interment will take place at FernDale Cemetery, Johnstown.
