Obituary of Virginia A. Edick

Mrs. Virginia A. Holland Edick, age 87 formerly of Gloversville, died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville. She had been a resident of Pine View Commons in Johnstown for nine months. She was born July 28, 1918 in Ballston Spa, NY, the daughter of the late John and Ida McDonald Holland. Her family came to Gloversville when she was twelve years old. She worked as a glove maker at Dovey Glove Company, then for 25 years at F.W. Woolworth Company, then at Britts Dept. Store and at Grace?s Place, all in Gloversville. Mrs. Edick was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church, where she was known for her baked goods at the church bake sales. She also was a member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary #122, and a charter member of the Nick Stoner Senior Citizens Club. Virginia loved to crochet. Virginia was married on January 24, 1937 to Harold A. Edick who died in 1983. She is survived by two children, Harold Edick Vicki of Mayfield and Catherine Beebe Robert of Burlington, CO; a brother, Donald Holland of Florida; a sister, Margaret Santangelo of Johnstown; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Edick, Andrea Edick, Robert Landrio, Robert Bridge, Paul Bridge, Stacy Cidlewicz, Charlene Lyman, John Beebe and Christine Beebe; eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, John Holland, Robert Holland, Edward Holland, Mary Schaf and Harriet Sprung. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 pm Sunday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St.; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Monday with the Rev. L. David Almleaf officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 521 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.
