Obituary of William C. Harden

William C. Harden 78, of the Stratton Apartments, Division Street, a former resident of Old River Rd. Fultonville, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon at St. Mary?s Hospital. Born in Cumberland Md., on Sept. 14, 1927, he was the son of the late William E. and Gladys A. Bloom Harden, he received his early education in Highman Penn. He then followed in his father?s footsteps and worked for two years on the railroad system. Bill then entered the US Army and began what was to become a career in the military. He proudly served in Japan, Germany, Italy and Korea and earned the rank of Sgt First Class. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal and the Bronze Star . Following his honorable discharge, he worked for Fairchild Electronics in Amsterdam and later for the GTE in Gloversville as a telephone installer. He retired in 1991 from White Mop Wringer in Fultonville after fifteen years of service. He lived in this area since 1967, and was a member of the Fultonville Reformed Church. On Nov. 10, 1951, he was united in marriage to the former Betty J. Hagarbome in Cumberland. In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his children; son William C. Harden and his wife Nancy of Fonda; daughters, Regina Dawson of So. Windsor, Ct., Linda Chichester of Amsterdam, and Shawn Jennings and her husband Michael of Fultonville., eight grandchildren; a brother, Donald R. Harden of Mt. Savage, Md., and a sister Rita M. Cerfoss of Somerset, Pa.; nieces, nephews and cousins. Antoher brother, Robert Harden predeceased him. A service to celebrate his life will take place on Tuesday at 10:00 am at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street Fultonville. The Rev. Lois Dodge officiating. Interment will take place with military honors in So. Valley Pleasant Brook Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 5-7pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Fultonville Reformed Church in care of the funeral home.
