Obituary of Marie L. Phillips

Marie L. Phillips 83, of Cranes Hollow Rd., passed away early Wednesday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility. Born in Johnstown on Oct. 11, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jesse Van Skiver Lamphier; she was a graduate of Johnstown High School class of 1940 where she was a member of the National Honor Society and class treasurer. Following her graduation, she was employed as a secretary for Leon F. Swears, and during that time worked as a clerk for Assemblyman Joseph R. Younglove in Albany during legislative sessions. A resident of Amsterdam since her marriage in 1946, Marie was employed for twenty-five years as a bookkeeper for Johnstown Dodge until she retired in 1987. She was an active member of the Cranesville Reformed Church where she served as it?s first woman elder. Marie also was past president of The Schoharie Classis and volunteered her time for the church bulletins and newsletters. She was united in marriage to Roy D. Phillips on Jan. 12, 1946. He predeceased her on Nov. 4, 2001. Also, a sister, Edna Marsh, and a brother, Robert Lamphier predeceased her. Her loving family includes her daughters, Cheryl Boersma and her husband William of Sturgis, Michigan and Lisa Flaherty of Gloversville, New York; her sister, Esther Lamphier of Johnstown; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Loraine Boersma, Jeanne Tom Miller, Megan Mike Morrison and Conor Laurel Flaherty; several great grandchildren, a niece and two nephews also survive. Services are Friday at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. The Rev Jake Marvel officiating. Spring interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. Calling hours are today from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Marie?s name to her beloved Cranesville Reformed Church, in care of the funeral home.
