Obituary of Anthony J. Caprara

Anthony J. Caprara, 83, of Jonathan Lane passed away Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Hospital. He had been a resident of Montgomery Meadows. Born in Amsterdam on October 10, 1922, the beloved son of Arturo and Antoinetta Spelta Caprara, he was educated locally. In 1981, he retired from the General Elecric Co. in Schenectady after forty years of service, where he was a coil former and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was the recipient of many awards for suggestions that were implemented through his efforts and was honored at the Van Dyke Restaurant by the company executives. In his retirement, Tony enjoyed painting and woodcarving and loved to garden. He took great pride in his flowers and vegetables and was an excellent cook, his specialties were antipasto and the holiday baccala salda. Tony also shared his love of fishing with his daughter and nieces and nephews on many outings. During World War II, he served with the US Army. He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. His Wife, the former Ida "Edith" Rinaldi, predeceased him on March 10, 1978. A brother, Gino Caprara also predeceased him. His loving family includes his daughter, Gail and her husband Richard Vines of Amsterdam; his dear granddaughter, Brittany R. Vines of Amsterdam; brothers, Dante Caprara and his wife Sylvia of Warwick, Rhode Island, Albert Caprara and his wife Margie of Amsterdam and Arthur Caprara and his wife Madeline of Saratoga Springs, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services are Friday at 8:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main Street. Interment is in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA in care of the funeral home office. Tony's family wishes to express thier deep gratitude to the nurses and staff at St. Mary's Hospital ER, ICU, and Maria Hall, and also the Montgomery Meadows for their care and concern for him.
