Obituary of Elizabeth W. Ziskin

Elizabeth W. Ziskin, 77, of Log City Road, passed away Monday afternoon at St. Mary?s Hospital.Born in Centralia, Illinois, on Feb.16, 1929, she was the daughter of Charles B. and Pauline Bundy Wham. She was a graduate of Wellesley College in 1951 and the Boston University School of Medicine in 1955. She interned at Albany Medical Center from 1955 to 1956 and completed her fellowship at the hospital from 1956 to 1957.Elizabeth moved to Amsterdam forty-four years ago where she has since resided.She loved children and was active in the Empire State Youth Orchestra where she served as a board member for a number of years and also in the same capacity with the Children?s Aid Society. She loved music, and was an accomplished pianist. A fine athlete, she was an avid skier and kayaker. On May 27, 1954 she was united in marriage to Dr. Hilbert Ziskin.In addition to her beloved husband of nearly fifty two years, she is survived by her children, Charles W. Ziskin and his wife Kazumi Kuriyama of Boulder, Colorado, Benjamin W. Ziskin and his wife Lynnette of Burnt Hills, New York, Joseph W. Ziskin and his wife Paula of Westport, Connecticut, James W. Ziskin and his wife Lakshmi of Los Angeles, California, William W. Ziskin and his wife Jennifer of Schenectady, New York, David W. Ziskin and his wife Constance of Amsterdam, New York, Mary Beth Ziskin and her companion Suzanne Mudge of Bloomington, Indiana, and Nancy Ellen Deneen and her husband Peter of Traverse City, Michigan; her brothers, James B. Wham and his wife Phyllis and William B. Wham and his wife Joan all of Centralia, Illinois; twelve grandchildren, Natalie Ziskin, Erica Ziskin, Max Ziskin, Lena Ziskin, Michela Green, Lisa Sherrick, Laura Johnson, Andrew Hastings, Emily Hastings, Thomas Ziskin, David Deneen and Isaac Deneen and six great grandchildren, Joshua Green, Madalyn Johnson, Lane Johnson, Megan Sherrick, Sarah Sherrick and Robert Sherrick as well as nieces, nephews survive.A service will take place Thursday at 10:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Interment will follow in Temple of Israel Cemetery, Cranesville. Calling hours are today from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. It is the request of the Ziskin family that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Foundation of St. Mary?s Hospital, 427 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
