Obituary of Anthony A. Guiffre

Anthony A. Guiffre, Jr., 92, formerly of upper Church Street, passed away Thursday morning at the Montgomery Meadows in Amsterdam. He was a resident of Pine View Commons in Johnstown for the past five years. Born in Amsterdam, New York, January 10, 1914, he was the son of Anthony A. and Angelina Marotta Guiffre, Sr. He was a life long area resident and attended Amsterdam Schools. Anthony was employed by the Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam, where he worked in the lower mills until retiring in the 70?s. He was a communicant of St. Michael?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and a former member of the Amsterdam Fish & Game Club. Anthony was an avid rabbit and dear hunter and was an active sportsman. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Frances Tessiero, and his second wife, the former Ann Sabawa. Survivors include three brothers, Frank Guiffre and his wife Mary of Amsterdam, Joseph A. Guiffre and his wife Concetta of Tribes Hill and Thomas Guiffre of Tribes Hill; two sisters, Lena Lopez of Saratoga Springs and Mary Morrone of Amsterdam; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 13, 2006, at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, New York with the Rev. Pascal Iannotti officiating. Interment will take place in St. Michael?s Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday one hour prior from 10 to 11 am at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Anthony?s memory to the Alzheimer?s Association of NY, 85 Watervliet Avenue, Albany, NY 12206-2083.
