Obituary of Reginald Percy Stevens

Reginald Percy Stevens of Washington St., Fultonville, NY entered into eternal rest on March 9, 2006 at 2 am. Reginald was born August 20, 1921 in Rutland, Vermont, to Marion Arline Bowne & Percy Stevens. He graduated from Rutland High School in 1939. He served in the US Army from 1942 to 1946 when he was discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He served in the US Army Reserves from 1946 to 1957. He took part in the D-Day Invasion and served in Northern France, Rhine and Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, European-African Middle East Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He was married to Kathleen Stevens in 1952. They had four children, Daniel Shirley Stevens of Fultonville, Marilyn Thomas Simek of Johnstown, Linda Robert Decker of Amsterdam and Kathleen James Reynolds of Fonda, who survive him. In 1976 he married Elaine Maples Stevens who survives him. His stepchildren are Linda LaRocca of Middletown, Connecticut, Kevin Gail Maples of Delafield, Wisconsin, Sharon Martin James-Bilger of Mayfield and Nancy Alan Yandell of Amsterdam who survive him. He is survived by 11 grandchildren, Daniel & Denise Stevens, Reginald & Jeanette Simek, Jason & Joseph Ricci, Rachel Hicks, Robbie Decker, and Roy, Joshua & Kayla Heroth; 8 step-grandchildren, Heather & Paige Haviland, Jennifer & Steven Maples, Michelle & Marc James and Shawn & Melissa Yandell. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Reginald was a member of the Mason Lodge No. 531 since the 1970's. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 486 since 1976. He was a 25-year former member of the Johnstown Moose Lodge 685 in Johnstown and a former member of the Farm Bureau and the Johnstown Kolaneha Grange #1441. He was a member of the VFW in Johnstown as well. He worked for and eventually owned the Francisco Farm on Route 29 until 1973. He worked for the former Allen Brothers AMC car dealership in the 1970's. He also worked for the Fonda Speedway from the 1950's to 1995 when he retired. He also worked as the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds at the Fonda Fairgrounds until 1995 when he retired. Reginald's interests during his life were motorcycles and motorcycle racing when he was younger, which then turned into an interest in watching NASCAR racing. Reginald was a member of the Fonda-Fultonville United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Shirley and brothers, Donald & Gerald. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville with the Rev. Nancy Pullen of the Fonda-Fultonville United Methodist Church officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday Mach 10, 2006 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a service at 4:45P.M. at the funeral home on Friday. Interment of Cremated Remains will take place at a later date in Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Hospice of Montgomery County or a charity of one's choice.
