Obituary of Carolyn Haff Schwemm

Mrs. Carolyn Haff Schwemm, 86, of Broadalbin and Dublin, Georgia, died February 25, 2006 in Georgia. She was born in Albany, New York on February 7, 1920, daughter of the late Arthur and Adelyn Harris Haff. Mrs. Schwemm was a 1937 graduate of Broadalbin High School. She was co-owner of the Hanging Basket Gift Shop and Hardware in Broadalbin for 17 years and the Broadalbin town clerk for 16 years. Carolyn was a long time devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Broadalbin. As a past matron of the Broadalbin Chapter #487 of the Order of the Eastern Star, she also served as District Deputy in 1983 and Grand Matron of the 15th District Order of the Eastern Star. Her additional memberships include: St. Monica Court #61 Order of Amaranth in Amsterdam, New York, Cyrene Temple #18 Daughters of the Nile, Marvia Court #27 Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America and Cypress Belles all in Albany, New York. Carolyn was also a member of the Soroptimists of Fulton County. She loved traveling and did so extensively throughout her life. Carolyn was married April 11, 1947 to Ronald Schwemm who died in 1987. Survivors include her sister, Janet Thompson of Schenectady, New York; a brother; Robert Haff and his wife Gloria of Dublin, Georgia and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Gene Adele Moule and a brother, Arthur John Haff. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am on Saturday from the First Presbyterian Church in Broadalbin with Reverend Linda Martin, Pastor officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 7-9 pm at the Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main Street, Broadalbin. Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown New York. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the Shriners' Childrens' Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, 01104, or to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, New York, 12205.
