Obituary of Dorothy W. Wert

Mrs. Dorothy Warren Wert, age 88, of Gloversville, died peacefully at home on Tuesday evening, February 21, 2006. She was born September 29, 1917 in Johnstown, the daughter of the late Arthur and Minnie Wait Warren. A 1935 graduate of Johnstown High School, she was also a graduate of the New York State College for Teachers in Albany in 1939. A substitute teacher in Johnstown and Gloversville for several years, Dorothy then taught full time for one year at Gloversville High School. She then did graduate work at Ithaca College, Union College, and at Oneonta Teacher?s College. She became employed as a mathematics teacher at the Galway Central School for 13 years until her retirement in 1979. Mrs. Wert was a very active member of the North Main St. United Methodist Church, where she served as a Trustee, member of the Administrative Board, President of the United Methodist Women, Superintendant of Sunday School for ten years, Benevolence Treasurer for ten years, and a member of the former Cheerios Class. She was also a member of the Kappa Delta of Albany, and was a volunteer for The Salvation Army. She is survived by her son, Robert W. Wert of Oxnard, CA; two granddaughters and two step-grandchildren. She was married to Wilson F. Wert in 1939 who died in1966. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm Thursday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday with the Rev. Christopher Hamm officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Main St. United Methodist Church, 316 N. Main St., Gloversville, NY 12078.
