Obituary of Dennis V. DiLorenzo

Dennis V. DiLorenzo, 62, of South William Street, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon at his home. Born in Amsterdam, New York on January 28, 1944, he was the son of the late Vincent C. and Violet Yurkon DiLorenzo. He was a resident of Johnstown for thirty years. Dennis was a graduate and member of the Honor Society of St. Mary?s Institute where he excelled in baseball and basketball. He graduated from the University of Buffalo with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, and later received his Masters in Political Science from SUNY of Albany. Dennis was employed as a reporter for the Albany Times Union and the Leader-Herald for many years. He worked as a teacher in the Johnstown School District for the past 15 years, where he was lovingly referred to as ?Mr. D.? by his students. Survivors include a sister, Debra V. Shuttleworth and her husband George of Amsterdam and two nephews, Paul V. Shuttleworth and George G. Shuttleworth; several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 20, 2006, at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, New York. Burial will take place in St. Casimir?s Cemetery in Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2 to 5 pm at the funeral home.
