Obituary of Woodard D. Walter

Mr. Woodard D. ?Woody? Walter, age 81, formerly of Gloversville, died Saturday, January 28, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, NY. He was born March 25, 1924 in Gloversville, the son of the late Delos and Mae Brown Walter, and was a 1942 graduate of Gloversville High School. Woody was very active in the Fulton County community, especially in civic organizations. He was the ?American Cancer Society Volunteer of the Year? in 1993. A past-president of the Republican Club of Fulton County, he received the ?Charles Hough Memorial Award? from the club on February 17, 1997. He was active in the C.S.E.A; and was a part-time Fulton County Deputy Sheriff. He also had worked at The Eccentric Club, the Fulton County Infirmary, and at Robison and Smith in Gloversville. Woody retired from the Town of Caroga Highway Dept. Mr. Walter was a member of the North Bush United Methodist Church, the Johnstown Moose, and the former Gloversville Eagles. He was married to Mary Ann Sweeney on December 22, 1968. She died November 20, 1985. He is survived by three daughters, Linda Moore Bronson E. of Broadalbin, Gail Seelow Jerry of Oak Harbor, WA; and Karen Parenti of Hookset, NH; a brother, Robert Walter of Gloversville; five grandchildren, Scott E. Moore, Jeffrey A. Moore, Jay Seelow, Sarah Seelow and Marissa Parenti; a great granddaughter, Abbygail Seelow; two step-daughters, Kathryn A. Avery and Karen Sagan of Johnstown. He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Stanton. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at the North Bush United Methodist Church, Caroga Lake, with the Rev. Claudia Britton officiating. There will be no calling hours. Spring urn interment will take place at Broadalbin Union Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the North Bush United Methodist Church, 1009 North Bush Road, Caroga Lake, NY 12032 or to the Caroga Lake Volunteer Fire Dept.; Caroga Lake, NY 12032.
