Obituary of Alicia P. Hemstreet Briggs

Alicia P. Hemstreet Briggs, 65, of East Main Street, Ft. Johnson, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning at her home. Born in Amsterdam on Dec. 12, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Stella Fijalkowski Prachniak. She was a graduate of Fulton Montgomery Community College and also the College of St. Rose receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus? Roman Catholic Church. Alicia was employed as an executive secretary for the General Electric Company in Schenectady for over thirty years until she retired in 1995. She was a very active member of the community and gave much of her time to such organizations as the Amsterdam Garden Club and the Century Club. Alicia cherished her regular ?Wednesday Golf and Lunch? dates with friends. She truly loved life, and enjoyed the many vacations she took with her husband and friends. She was the widow of Harvey D. Briggs who died in 1996. Her loving family includes her son, Randolph A. ?Randy? Hemstreet and his wife Kim of Ft. Johnson; grandchildren, Nathan and Vanessa Zap; her faithful canine pal Sherman and many dear and caring friends. Her family is most grateful to them for all they?ve done for her during her illness. They also want to acknowledge Hospice, who for the brief time they cared for her, also showed compassion and kindness. Services are Saturday at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue with Fr. Anthony Gulley officiating. Interment is in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Alicia?s name to St. Stanislaus? Church, St Jude?s Children?s Research Hospital or the Auriesville Shrine, all in care of the funeral home.
