Obituary of Gladys Ellerson

Gladys M. Ellerson, 98, of Chapel Place, passed away Saturday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility. Born in Amsterdam on June 13, 1907, the only child of Robert and Amy Martin Dressler, she was a lifelong resident and attended local schools. Mrs. Ellerson was active in the community, at one time serving as president of the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Between Memorial and St. Mary?s Hospitals, Gladys volunteered over eight thousand hours of her time, and received a special citation for her efforts. She also was a member of Art-Wel Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the former Guy Park Seniors, and a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Gladys was a member of St. Luke?s Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of its Daughters of the King. Her husband, Harold F. Ellerson, predeceased her in 1975. She is survived by a daughter, Elaine Ellerson of Amsterdam; a son, Dr. R. David Ellerson and his wife Darragh of Montpelier, Vermont; grandchildren, Alex Ellerson of Port Washington, New York, Evan Terry Ellerson of White River Junction, Vermont, Deidre Ellerson of Sharon, Vermont, Mai-lis Miccal McMullen of Northfield, Vermont and Eric Engle of Amsterdam and great-grandchildren, Lucia and Mateo Ellerson, Sera and Rachel Ellerson, Benjamin Engle, Keara and Rowan McMullen. Funeral services and viewing are at the convenience of the family at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home 171 Guy Park Avenue with the Rev. John Califano, officiating. Interment is in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Montgomery Co. SPCA, or to any charity in her name, all in care of the funeral home office, Amsterdam, 12010.
