Obituary of Marguerite A. Ruocco

Mrs. Marguerite A. Ruocco, formerly of Gloversville, died peacefully in her sleep at her daughter's home on Saturday, December 24, 2005. Born June 1, 1914 in Gloversville, she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Lucille Briggin Anthony. A Johnstown High School graduate in 1931, she also attended Simmons College in Boston, Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs and graduated from the former Methodist Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn. Mrs. Ruocco was employed as a registered nurse for many years at Nathan Littauer Hospital, the former Johnstown Hospital and she also did private duty nursing. Always involved in family and community, Marguerite was a long time member of PTA at both McNab School and Gloversville High School, serving as president at McNab. Her many years of dedication to the Fulton County Mental Health Association as a founding member, board member and recipient of the Ruth Voorhees Award, were especially meaningful to Marguerite. She was a member of the Hospital Alumni Association, subcommittee of community service and executive board of St. Mary's Hospital Mental Health Center. Early in her life, she was also a member of the former St. Francis de Sales Church Women's Society and Mt. Carmel Church. She was united in marriage to Joseph W. Ruocco Sr. on September 4, 1939 at St. Finbar's Church in Brooklyn. He predeceased her on August 11, 1994. Survivors include her children, Anthony Ruocco of Recife, Brazil, Joanne Clarke of Gloversville, N.Y. Marguerite Webster and her husband Royce of Morris, N.Y. and Ann Michele Wasilewski and her husband Kris of Boston, MA; two sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Spinak of Gloversville and Susan B. Von Atzingen and her husband Bill of Greenville, N.Y. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews who will always remember her wonderful cooking and baked masterpieces. Marguerite was predeceased by two sons, Robert Ruocco in 1955 and Joseph W. Ruocco Jr. in 2003. A prayer service will be held Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, and at 10 a.m. a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown in the spring. The family will receive friends Thursday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Gloversville Public Library or to the Gloversville Senior Citizens Center
