Obituary of Arthur Foss Kruger

Arthur Foss Kruger, 88, of Auriesville Rd, Fultonville, New York passed away Monday at Montgomery Meadows residential health care Facility in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, NY on July 4, 1917 a son of Arthur W. and Anna Marie Foss Kruger. He was a lifelong area resident and was a 1935 graduate of Amsterdam High School. Arthur married Lucille Jean Davis on February 12, 1942 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Arthur and Lucille began their married life in Amsterdam. Arthur then entered the U.S. Army Air Force on April 6, 1942. He was sent to Moody Field in Valdosta Georgia where he served as a Communications Officer, training foreign cadets from England, China, and the Netherlands. He was then transferred to Freeman Field in Seymour, Indiana where Lucille joined him in 1943. During this time Lucille packed parachutes for troops overseas. In 1944, Arthur left Freeman Field to serve in the China, Burma, India Air Transfer Command. Arthur served as communications chief for one of the largest airlift efforts of World War II, at times flying over the Himalayan Hump from India to China. Arthur was discharged on November 26, 1945. He returned to Amsterdam where he worked in the carpet mills until going to work for the State of New York as a carpenter retiring on January 4, 1979. Arthur and Lucille moved to Fultonville, New York in 1948 where Lucille still resides today. They raised two children, Linda May and David Paul. He enjoyed in his spare time hunting, fishing, bowling and golf. He was a member of the Fultonville Lodge #531 F&AM of Fultonville, New York and the VFW Post 942 in Fonda. In addition to his wife Lucille, survivors include one daughter, Linda Kruger Gray; one son, David Kruger and his wife Brenda; five granddaughters, Susan Gray Denton and her husband Scott, Kelly Kruger Morgan and her husband Ned, Stacey Kruger Tucker and her husband Daniel, Wendy Kruger and Kristy Kruger and three great-grandchildren, Kiersten Denton, Kelsey Denton and Robert Kruger. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday December 22, 2005 at 11:00AM at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St. Fultonville, New York with the Rev. Charles Hesslink presiding. Interment will be in Maple Ave Cemetery, Fultonville, New York. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday today from 4-7PM at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, Fultonville, New York. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 6:45PM at the funeral home on Wednesday. The VFW Post 942 will meet also on Wednesday at 6:30 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Association for the Blind, or to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd. Albany, New York, 12205.
