Obituary of Martha L. Palmatier

Mrs. Martha L. Palmatier, 97, a resident at Hillcrest Springs and formerly of Stewart Street, passed away Wednesday morning at St. Mary?s Hospital. Born in Thompsonville, Connecticut on February 22, 1908 she was the daughter of the late Francis and Louise Brocheu Toolan. In 1930 Mrs. Palmatier moved to Amsterdam and was a graduate of the Amsterdam School of Commerce. From 1934 until 1954 she was employed by the Bigalow Sanford Carpet Mills, as a telephone operator. She then worked at City Hall part time as a telephone operator and at Selective Service. Mrs. Palmatier was a communicant of St. Mary?s R.C. Church. She was united in marriage on November 18, 1947 to Earl K. Palmatier. That union lasted 45 years until his death on January 18, 1992. Mrs. Palmatier was also predeceased by one brother, Vitall Toolan and one sister, Helen M. Toolan. She is survived by several dear nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30a.m on Monday at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15a.m. at St. Mary?s R.C. Church, 156 East Main Street, with the Rev. Gulley as celebrant. A calling hour will precede the service from 9:30a.m. until 10:30a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to G.A.V.A.C., 11 Park Street, Amsterdam or St. Mary?s Hospital Foundation, 427 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
