Obituary of Virginia Fontanella

Virginia Fontanella, 87, formerly of Erie Boulevard, passed away peacefully early Wednesday at the Palatine Nursing Home. Born in Canajoharie where she lived her entire life, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria DiBona Fontanella. She attended Canajoharie schools and was employed at Beechnut Corp. for many years until her retirement. Virginia was a communicant of Sts. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church and was a member of its Rosary Society. Her loving family includes her niece, Peggy Bowmaker of Canajoharie; nephews, Richard Nalli of Hialeah, Florida and William ?Boomer? Nalli of Canajoharie; several grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. She was the last of her siblings who all predeceased her, Mary Litto, Edith Hulsaver John, James, Rose and Emma Fontanella. Virginia, like her entire family, was a hard working and kind person, devoted to her parish and her faith. A prayer service will take place Friday morning at 9:30 am at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street Canajoharie, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Cliff Street, Fr. William Gaffigan, celebrant. Interment will take place in the spring in Sts. Peter & Paul?s Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the service at 8:30 am. Contributions may be made to Sts. Peter & Paul?s Church, or the Mid-County Ambulance Service both in care of the funeral home. Virginia?s family wishes to thank the entire staff at Palatine Nursing Home for their care and concern for her these past four and a half years.
