Obituary of Leon B. Peterson

Leon B. Peterson, 86, of Amsterdam, passed away Saturday morning December 3, 2005 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, NY on April 19, 1919 a son of Anthony and Veronika Libkis Peterson. He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and was a Graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II serving in the African and European Theatres in the Army Signal Corps. He was of the Roman Catholic Faith. Mr. Peterson was employed by the General Electric Co. in Schenectady as a Electronics Specialist mainly working on the road traveling for over 19years. He was a member of the former VFW Post in Hagaman #9253 and later the VFW post in Amsterdam. He enjoyed Amateur Radio and was a member of the Tryon Amateur Radio Club in Johnstown. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and most of all his grandchildren. He married Sophie O. Peterson in October of 1950. She recently passed away this year on January 23, 2005. Survivor?s include- Two sons- Ronald L. Peterson and his wife Veronica of Amherst, NY and Donald H. Peterson and his wife Donna of Amsterdam, NY Five Grandchildren- Veronika Peterson, Nicholas Peterson and his wife Jill, Katy, Molly and Jeffery Peterson. Nieces, Nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by a Brother- William Peterson and a Sister- Sadie Torre Allen. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday December 6, 2005 at 11:00A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Richard Vosko presiding. Interment of Cremated Remains will be in St. Casimir?s Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday evening December 5, 2005 at the funeral home.
