Obituary of William F. Wilkas

Mr. William F. ?Chilly? Wilkas, 80, of Division St. passed away Saturday afternoon at St. Mary?s Hospital. Born March 20, 1925 he was the son of the late Steven and Sophie Sawatska Wilkas. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. Mr. Wilkas worked as a weaver for Mohasco Carpet Mills in Amsterdam for many years until going to work for the Noteworthy Company until his retirement. He was an avid bowler and held many bowling records. Mr. Wilkas also liked the outdoors, fishing and playing softball. Mr. Wilkas was predeceased by his wife Mary Gorzycki who passed away on June 2, 1997. Survivors include his two sons, William P. Wilkas and his wife Linda and Vincent S. Wilkas and his wife Valerie, all of Amsterdam; one grandson, Vincent H. Wilkas and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 10a.m. at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, with the Rev. Stanley J. Swierzowski officiating. Internment will take place in St. Casimir?s Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday evening from 4 until 7p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny?s Corner Road, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
