Obituary of Julia Rose Cristiano

Mrs. Julia Rose Valovic Cristiano, age 89, formerly of Johnstown, died peacefully on Thursday evening, September 29, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam. She was born September 23, 1916 in Johnstown, one of six children of the late Anthony and Pauline Balas Valovic. She was employed by the former MCA Record Company of Gloversville for many years, as well as at the family-owned Leonzo´s Pizza in Gloversville. She was of Catholic faith. Mrs. Cristiano and her late husband Tony enjoyed working around the house, and were well known for their meticulous abilities with gardening, landscaping and holiday lighting at their home on Prindle Avenue in Johnstown. Julia was married on November 27, 1942 to Anthony Cristiano who died January 4, 1996. Survivors include two sons, Leo A. Cristiano Pamela of Northville and Thomas F. Cristiano Donna of Johnstown; a brother, Vandeline Valovic Frances of Gloversville; three sisters, Mary Bartholomew and Anna Murkey of Johnstown, and Pauline Buyce of Northville; seven grandchildren, Vincent Cristiano, Lynn Cristiano, Thomas J. Cristiano, Lisa Brown, Ann Marie Johnson, Kevin Cristiano and Jessica Cristiano ; five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Andrew J. Cristiano; and by her brother, Anthony Valovic. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 PM Sunday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will take place 10:00 AM Monday with the Rev. James Fitzmaurice officiating. Entombment will take place in the family mausoleum at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
