Obituary of Edward J. Levandosky

Edward J. Levandosky, 82, of Woodrow Rd., passed away Tuesday morning at St. Mary?s Hospital. Born in Hagaman on June 30, 1923, the son of Joseph and Teofilia Denza Levandosky. He was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. First employed by the Bigelow Sanford Carpet Company, he left his position to enlist in the US Army. Ed served as a staff sergeant during World War II, and was present on the third day of the invasion on Omaha Beach. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge and at St. Lo. He received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for bravery. After the war, Ed was employed as an armory superintendent by the NY Air National Guard Stratton in Schenectady for over 30 years until his retirement in 1985. When his children were young, he coached Little League and Girls Softball. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of St. Ann?s Episcopal Church. On June 14, 1947, he was united in marriage to Louie B. Cook Levandosky. In addition to his beloved wife of fifty eight years, his loving family includes his children, John E. and his wife Judy Levandosky of Amsterdam, Doreen and her husband Richard Dodd of Webster, NY, Carol and her husband David Phillis of Broadalbin; his brother, William Levandosky of Niskayuna; his sisters, Helen Levandosky, Genevieve LaRowe and Ceil Smitka all of Amsterdam and Eleanor Spagnola of Galway; seven grandchildren; four step grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Levandosky, and sisters, Sophie Wojcik, Stella Kryzyanowski, and Virginia Peters. The Office of the Burial of the Dead will be read Thursday at 11:00 am at St. Ann?s Episcopal Church, 37 Division Street. The Rev. Christopher A. Smith officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may call today from 5-8 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home 171 Guy Park Avenue. Interment is in Fairview Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.
