Obituary of Jack H. Reyome

Mr. Jack H. Reyome, 77, of Maple Street, Broadalbin NY, passed away Sunday morning at his home surrounded by his family. Born October 11, 1927 in Ilion, NY he was the son of Herbert and Venona Wengert Reyome. He attended schools in Ilion throughout his life and went on to Valpariso College. In 1948 he joined the United States Air Force. During that time he met the love of his life and his reason for living, Florence ?Rusty? B. Gerdin and was married January 30, 1951 at Eglin Airforce Base in Pensacola, FL. His wife predeceased him in September of 2000. After his tour of duty Jack was employed by Philco Electronics as a radar systems engineer and traveled extensively throughout the world. In 1970 Jack decided to try a new challenge and opened a Taylor Rental franchise in Gloversville which then expanded into Middletown and Amsterdam, NY retiring in 1984. He then went on to be a personal financial planner with I.D.S. , a company owned by American Express. Jack was also toll collector with the NY State Thruway Authority for a number of years until his retirement in 2000. Mr. Reyome was a former member of the Gloversville Kiwanis Club and was a founding president of the Fulton County Humane Society. He was the first treasurer of Hospice of Fulton County and also served as a board member. Mr. Reyome supported several Veterans? organizations and was a regular blood donor. He also was a volunteer at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital and St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. He enjoyed his family especially his beloved wife, traveling, golfing, riding motorcycles, snorkeling, and hiking. Jack was known for his cheerful, compassionate presence, which endured to all who crossed his path. He is survived by three sons: Marc S. Reyome and his wife Lynda McConnell of Attleboro, MA; Norman L. Reyome of Broadalbin, NY; and Jeffrey P. Reyome of Valley Forge, PA; one daughter: Tracy L. Fialkowski of Venice, FL; two brother-in-laws: Louis P. Gerdin and his wife Ellen of Little Falls, NY; and Frank Gerdin and his wife Jeannie of Williamsburg, VA; one cousin: Martha Wengert of Ilion, NY; four grand-children: Zachary, Christian, Jocelyn, and Jack Reyome; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 PM Sunday August 7, 2005 at the Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin. A funeral service will follow at 6pm with the Rev. R.W. Williams officiating. Interment will take place in the Ilion Cemetery, Ilion on Sunday August 14, 2005 at 2pm.
