Obituary of Horace Andrews

Horace Andrews, 89, of Haskell St., Hagaman, passed away early Tuesday morning at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, NY on November 18, 1915 a son of Joseph and Emily Stokes Andrews he was a life long Amsterdam resident and was a 1932 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He began working in 1933 for the Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam. He later worked for Mohasco Industries as a National Contract Sales Manager retiring in 1980. Mr. Andrews was a member of the United Methodist Church in Amsterdam. Mr. Andrews was an accomplished artist and enjoyed watercolor painting. He enjoyed giving his paintings to family and friends. His artwork was featured at one time at the Hagaman Art Show and the Century Club Art Show. He also loved playing golf, going fishing and above all spending time with his grandchildren and family. He married Ann Phoenix Andrews on July 9, 1939. In addition to his wife survivor?s include three sons: Robert Andrews of Richmond, Virginia, Richard Andrews and his wife Mary of Amsterdam, and William Andrews and his wife Adrienne of Buxton, ME; one sister, Beverly Taggart and her husband Bill of Johnstown, NY and two cherished grandchildren: David Andrews of Boulder, Colorado and Michele Riedl and her husband Jeffrey of Webster, NY. Nieces, Nephews and cousins also survive. Mr. Andrews was pre-deceased by a sister, Florence Drake, and a brother, Donald Andrews who both passed away in 1995. Funeral Services will be held on Friday July 1st, 2005 at 1:00PM at the United Methodist Church, 347 Golf Course Road, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Brian Gould presiding. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday July 1st, 2005 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the United Methodist Church in Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, 347 Golf Course Rd. Amsterdam, NY 12010. Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY.
