Obituary of Katherine A. Spagnola

Mrs. Katherine A. Spagnola, 78, of Lake Rd., Galway, passed away at the home of her daughters on Catherine St. in Amsterdam with her family by her side. Born on April 15, 1927 in Gloversville, NY she was the daughter of Clement and Elsie Davis Gray. Mrs. Spagnola was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of Gloversville High School. She was employed at Laurie?s Department Store and at K-Mart in Amsterdam until her retirement in 1990. She was a communicant of St. Stephens Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman and was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who always did everything for her family. She was also an avid Yankee fan that would rarely miss watching a Yankee game. Survivors include her husband, Aloysius Louie Spagnola whom she married on April 17, 1944; a son, Clement M. Spagnola and his wife Gloria of Hagaman; 2 daughters, Lynda Spagnola and Susan M. Russo both of Amsterdam; Step-Mother- Anna Gray of Johnstown, brother in-law, Anthony Spagnola and his wife Eleanor; sister in-law, Pasqualena Lena Piarno; 8 grandchildren, Michael Spagnola, Wendy Spagnola, Kelly Glionna and her husband Richard, Brandon Spagnola, Darby Vedder and his wife Allison, Tera Aldi and her husband Richard, Dylan Vedder, and Amanda Russo; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her Sister- Betty Peters on March 16, 2003. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephens Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman with the Rev. Ronald Matulewicz as celebrant. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny?s Corner Rd., Amsterdam, NY 12010, or to St. Jude?s Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
