Obituary of Marion L. Smith

Marion L. Smith, 88, formerly of Amsterdam, died Friday at the Baptist Health Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Scotia, after being a resident since 2003. Born March 18, 1917, in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of George Henry and Lillian Walrath Ploss. She lived most of her life in Amsterdam, and was a Wilbur H. Lynch High School graduate, Class of 1935. Marion was the manager of the Grand Union in Amsterdam for a number of years until retiring in 1972. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Amsterdam. Marion was first married to D. Clark Snyder in 1935. On December 31, 1947 she married Ray Hannaford, who died April 18, 1979, and on June 12, 1982, she married Floyd Smith, who later died in January 7, 1998. Survivors include; two sons, Douglas Snyder and his wife Sandra of Saugerties and Larry Hannaford of Albany, N.Y.; one niece, Joan Dalesandro and her husband Frank of Amsterdam; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Elinor Di Scenza-Conrad. Funeral services will be held on Monday May 23, 2005 at 12 noon at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, N.Y. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill, N.Y. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday one hour prior from 11 to 12 noon at the funeral home. A Legacy Candle Ceremony will be held that Monday morning at 11:45 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Marion?s memory to the Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center 297 N. Ballston Avenue, Scotia, N.Y. 12302.
