Obituary of Robert A. Yorks

Mr. Robert A. Yorks, 87, formerly of Mayfield, died Saturday at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home, where he had been s resident for about two years. He was born in Rockland, NY on July 14, 1917, son of the late Andrew and Inez Orcutt Yorks. Educated in the Mayfield Schools, Mr. Yorks worked for area general contractors for many years, until forming his own business, Robert Yorks Masonry, retiring several years ago. Mr. Yorks was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theatres. Mr. Yorks was an accomplished and avid wood worker and well-known for his expertise. Mr. Yorks was predeceased by his wife Iona Dutcher Yorks in 1968 and by his companion of many years, Mary Kennicutt. Survivors include his sons: Albert Yorks and his wife Bonnie of Johnstown, and Dale Yorks of Mayfield, as well as two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sisters Goldie Titus and Audrey Cronin, and brothers Algy Yorks, Freeman Yorks, and Jessie Yorks. There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady. Arrangements are by the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville.
